I was one of the featured artists during the show Experimentalism curated by Phantom Gallery. As part of the programming, I guided participants of all ages through my process of making wire sculptures.
My wire figures are abstracted human forms that activate any object they interact with. I discovered this style by first realizing the similarity between the jagged volumes I was creating and the coils of my own hair. From there, I then constructed the rest of the body which is the order I still use when making them today.
I like viewing these figures as future representations of myself. If I'm feeling overwhelmed with a project at work or am stuck on an idea, their exaggerated gestures remind me of the feeling I will have once I get through it.
